Budo Accelerator for Teens at BigRock Aikikai

Posted on by Sensei Steve Erickson

Everyone knows how much BigRock Aikikai loves and supports young people in aikido. We are wholeheartedly committed to making our dojo a positive and enriching environment for young people. In that light we are working with an organization called Budo Accelerator on a spring 2021 pilot program for our teen aikido students.

Budo Accelerator is a non-profit organization that uses aikido in new and exciting ways to enrich the lives of young people and the communities in which they live. I truly feel our aikido teens will benefit from participating in the online programs of Budo Accelerator.

This 3 month pilot is an after-school / weekend program for teens featuring Online Martial Arts Training, a Speaker Series (with leading experts from around North America) and Inspiring Mentors.

Teens - Budo Accelerator requires a real commitment so please do not sign-up lightly. But if you are ready to accept the challenge, you’ll:

  • Meet new friends from around Canada and the U.S.
  • Engage with world-class leaders and amazing mentors
  • Gain leadership skills you can use at the dojo, at school, or within any organization or group
  • Learn new martial arts skills
  • Have lots of fun

Join us if you’re ready to accept the challenge. You can learn more about the program and apply here. The program runs from March 13-May 30 and the application deadline is February 19. If you have any questions about the program, you can email Budo Accelerator here.

Incentives

  • Some of the martial arts training provided during this spring session will be in Kali, a Filipino martial art. BigRock Aikikai will be providing, free of charge, the equipment needed for this class (Kali sticks are short wooden staffs).
  • Participants will receive BigRock class credits for all time spent in Budo Accelerator online classes.

Parents - Budo Accelerator is an educational nonprofit, committed to leadership development for young people. Their programs achieve amazing results and the students get the opportunity to meet very interesting speakers and mentors from around North America.
