The annual BigRock Aikikai overnight camp is the most sought-after event in our U18 program. Its multitude of thrilling, engaging, and character-building activities makes this four-day experience unforgettable. If you're new to this event or would like a refresher, take a look below at the breakdown of overnight camp activities!
Every day, we will have intense Aikido training sessions, focused on both fostering stronger skillsets and accelerating students towards their next belt test. Students will have the chance to brush up on the basics, learn new, exciting techniques, and gain stripes along the way, all with the support of our dedicated teaching team.
Games will be a definite highlight of overnight camp. Our lower energy games, such as Hide the Tanto, create a great sense of camaraderie and replenish participants' energy after hard work in Aikido classes. High intensity games, like Snow Leopard and Cat's Elimination, are looked forward to every night and fill the dojo with a palpable buzz of excitement.
After every evening game, we will finish the night with a movie! It will be a great time to relax with their peers and rest after a long day of training and fun.
Meals will be provided. From early morning bacon and eggs, to customizable sandwiches at lunch, to BBQ and pizza dinners, we certainly won't be lacking in the food department. The teaching team will ensure all participants receive their fair share of fruits and veggies, in addition to the tasty meals they prepare :)
Finally, we will have our highly-anticipated offsite trip to the local park and/or swimming pool on the Saturday of camp. It's always a blast! A school bus will transport participants to and from this activity. You won't want to miss this chance to create strong dojo friendships and make a summer camp memory you'll never forget.
What else makes this camp special?!
It is a wonderful opportunity for camaraderie - participants train together, eat together, work together preparing meals & cleaning and all sleep under the same roof. New friendships are kindled and old ones are strengthened.
Due to the length of the camp, training gets more and more difficult as exhaustion sets in. This kind of adversity doesn't happen under normal circumstances and it is incredibly beneficial for cultivating resilience. We guarantee that every participant will go home stronger on Sunday than they were on Thursday upon arrival.
There will be limited opportunities for participants to sit mindlessly on electronic devices. While technology has the ability to improve our lives in some ways, we believe it also has the ability to rob our children of movement and social engagement - accordingly, we will rob your children of their mobile devices if we find those devices coming between them and the other participants they should be engaging with :-)
Lastly, we have 7 ultra amazing hammocks that will provide the most comfortable sleep imaginable! These will be distributed among the participants based on factors such as helpfulness, work ethic and hygiene. A great reward after an exhausting, fun-filled day.
How much does it cost to attend this fantastic, four-day event? Only $250!
