The younger day camp at BigRock Aikikai is a staple of our Aikido summers at the dojo. Any kids under 9, whether they are from our U18 program, another dojo’s kids program, or are brand new to Aikido are all welcome to participate.

Why is this week such an amazing experience for kids?

Each day of day camp will be packed with exciting activities, especially training sessions, where every student will have the chance to work with our instructors to increase their technical skillsets. Not only will these structured intensives advance participants towards their next rank, but they also work to individually improve each student’s discipline, focus, and concentration.

Challenging, yet rewarding drills will start every training session. From animal relay races to dodging pool noodles, these drills work to provide participants with a full body workout, increased body control, and of course, an activity that makes exercise fun!

Our Virtues Program also acts as a pillar of the day camp, where students are educated on all different virtues that we put first at the dojo, such as respect, humility, kindness, and courage. By demonstrating these virtues throughout the camp, the participants will also be recognized and rewarded for their outstanding efforts, building their confidence, character, and ability to de-escalate situations without resorting to physical violence.

Our low energy and high energy games are always looked forward to, especially the final game we play at the end of each camp day. Some favourites include hide and seek in the dark with a flashlight, as well as a game of tag through a maze built out of mats. These games combine factors of cardio, awareness, and strategy to make for an exhilarating way to finish off a day of lively activities.

To conclude, this day camp is not one to miss! Throughout the camp, we strive to help every participant feel more centred, more resilient, and more empowered, not just within the dojo, but in every area of their lives. If you have a child under 9 years old, please consider registering them for our younger day camp.

We hope to see your child from July 13th to 17th at our younger day camp!
